Everyone has a house that no longer exists, rebuilt or lived in by strangers. Wojciech Bąkowski recalled spending much of the eighties with a large, close family in a house that today looks nothing like itself, most of those people now dead or gone from his sight. That sadness, he said, has a slightly pleasant shade. On the cardboard this much is left: grey pastel fog, a dark block on the left and three lit windows, the brightest points in the picture. The house is gone, the light is still on.
The painter
Wojciech Bąkowski (born 1979) graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznań. He works across print, drawing, experimental film, animation, poetry and alternative music, leads the bands KOT and NIWEA and co-founded the Penerstwo group. He received the Deutsche Bank Spojrzenia Award in 2009 and the Polityka Passport in 2010.
